Locally sourced meat is at the heart of our business here at Keelham. This is why our co-owner James Robertshaw visits local auction marts every week to handpick the best to supply our in house butchers with the tastiest local meat available. James knows his way around livestock and was taught how to select the best by his father Andrew, who started Keelham in the 1970s, and his Grandad Harry, who ran a butchers shop in Halifax, well before people had cars to be able to access us here.
This week, at the June Prime Shows at Skipton Auction Mart, James secured the reserve champion Limousin heifer, and a title-winning pen of Charollais spring lambs, as seen below. This is something that we do throughout the year, working in partnership with local farmers - either directly or through our local auction marts. We've developed really strong field-to-fork supply partnerships - highlighted through buying prime quality meat from our local auction marts on a weekly basis, many show champions and prize winners among them, like this week. Our commitment to local sourcing ensures full traceability, helps keep food miles to a minimum, helps the local economy, and the meat does taste so good - it's really a win win situation. Plus our experienced, knowledgable and friendly butchery team will help you with any questions you may have about the meat - different cuts, how to cook it, or anything else you want to ask.
